Breathing easy – Ibrahim’s story

Ibrahim joined Leeds Stop Smoking services when it was recommended to him by a co-worker. After realising it was getting more difficult to complete tasks and becoming more breathless, Ibrahim thought with the right time to act before things get any worse.
“I didn't feel good. I knew of the negative side effects both short term and long term on my health however, it was a stress and boredom reliever. I came across service when speaking to a co-worker who had links to the service. I took it as a sign to give it ago decided it was something I wanted to do.”
Stopping smoking is one of the best things that you can do for your health. We are trained and equipped with the latest techniques and knowledge to help you succeed.
“When I started, I tried NRT, gum, moth spray and inhalers. The gum was most helpful as I could take it to work and have it to the most convenient times like the commute to work. Especially in the initial stages of not smoking, the gum was the most helpful as it eased the cravings.
“Talking with my coach allowed me to keep myself accountable knowing we would be having a conversation about what was going on. I had a blip in week one but got back on track following these conversations. We talked about stress management, identifying what was causing me stress and how to remove it. I took that away and have used it to stop any relapses.”
Our Health Coaches use the latest, evidenced-based behavioral change, support and medication to help people quit smoking for good. Our sessions can be delivered as one-to-one, or as part of a group of other people working towards the same goal.
“So far, I have managed to quit smoking for six weeks. In terms of health, wheezing, breathlessness and the smokers cough are now gone. I feel like I can achieve anything now. I’m not worrying about smelling of cigarettes or having to douse myself in sprays to cover it up. I’m no longer worrying about cravings; it has been a real positive life change overall. My bank account is also looking a lot healthier; I went to the local funfair and will be treating myself to a nice birthday meal.
I could not fault the service for a single second. I have recommended it to other people. I've been able to encourage colleagues at work to get in touch with their local stop smoking services. I’m very grateful.
