Feeling great – Jane’s story
8 Oct 2024
Jane joined the Leeds Stop Smoking service to make the quit for good, hear in her own words what motivated her to quit, how she did it, and how she feels being smoke free.
“I struggled to quit on my own as I didn’t have the support at home, and at the time, I enjoyed smoking. I am very delighted that I did that, and it came at the right time as l had just lost my sister-in-law.
“My husband was smoking and agreed to quit together but would then smoke every now and again. My biggest motivation to quit was losing my sister-in-law who was diagnosed with cancer and died a week later.”
Our Health Coaches use the latest, evidenced-based behavioural change support and medication to help people quit smoking for good. Our sessions can be delivered as one-to-one, or as part of a group of other people working towards the same goal.
“I got a call from the service and l requested patches to help me quit smoking completely, I chose remote support delivery. I was delighted with the weekly phone calls from my Health Coach, and everyone was happy with my progress. It's good that there is support like this available.”
Leeds Stop Smoking Services have free resources available to support stopping smoking. These have been developed to provide the most recent expert advice and guidance. This provides the best chance of succeeding alone.
When asked about the challenges she faced along the way, Jane told us that the services helped her to change her mind set and routine, “from a cup of coffee or a glass of wine with a cigarette, l am now saving £200+ per month.
“I’ve found Leeds Stop Smoking service absolutely fabulous, and to have that encouragement over the phone makes it a wonderful service. I’ve now been smoke free for 12 weeks!
“With the money I’ve saved from stopping smoking, I’ve bought new clothes and saved for holidays next year. Since stopping smoking, I have also given up wine too, and I am feeling great.”
