From Stress to strength- Natasha’s story
9 Jan 2026
Natasha was referred to the Leeds Stop Smoking Service by her GP. Her motivation to quit smoking was driven by a desire to improve her health and set a positive example for her son.
“I’d quit before and managed a whole year, but I started again during a really difficult time. My son was injured and had to undergo surgery. I wasn’t told until after it happened, and the stress of not being there for him led me back to smoking. I felt so disappointed in myself.
“I’m glad I finally made the step to contact the service. I was supported by my Health Coach and met with her weekly. I used patches and an inhalator, and blowing into the CO2 monitor had also helped me track my progress. That support kept me going.
Our Health Coaches use the latest, evidenced-based behavioural change support and medication to help people quit smoking for good. Our sessions can be delivered as one-to-one, or as part of a group of other people working towards the same goal.
“There were tough moments. Life got me down sometimes, but I pushed through. I talked to my doctor and to my Health Coach whilst leaning on my grandad and brother for support.”
“It’s now been four weeks since I quit, and I feel really good. I’ve even started embracing my natural hair curls again as a way to reward myself. I’ve got a lot I want to achieve in my personal life, and quitting smoking is helping me take those steps.”
“I’m proud of what I’ve done and grateful for the support I received. This is just the beginning.”
