Staying focused for family – Ewa’s story
7 Apr 2026
Ewa was referred to Leeds Stop Smoking Service after being encouraged by a neighbour to seek support. Having tried to quit smoking before for a short time, Ewa was motivated to try again — this time with professional help — driven by her desire to be healthier for her grandchildren and determined to stay smokefree.
“My grandchildren were my main motivation to quit. I had stopped smoking before for about a month, but stress and personal problems led me back to it. This time, I wanted to do it properly.”
“When I contacted the service, I felt very good about it. I knew I needed support, and having someone there to guide me made me feel more confident about quitting.”
Leeds Stop Smoking Service offers free, personalised support to help people quit smoking in a way that works for them. Through one‑to‑one coaching and access to nicotine replacement therapies such as patches and inhalators, the service supports individuals to manage cravings, build confidence, and develop strategies to stay smokefree.
“I chose to use nicotine patches and an inhalator, and both have been really helpful. The support from my Health Coach helped me stay focused, even when things felt challenging in my life.
“I faced challenges because of ongoing stress, but I relied on my strong will and the support I was given. Knowing why I wanted to quit helped me push through the difficult moments.
“I’ve now been smokefree for four weeks. I’ve even rewarded myself with the money I’ve saved, which feels like a real achievement.”
“My next step is simple — to stay smokefree. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and grateful for the support I’ve received. This has helped me believe that I really can make this change for good.”
